These sweet potato wedges have a spicy foil to their sweetness. They’re reminiscent of sweet potato fries, but a whole lot healthier. Look for the dark-skinned sweet potatoes with bright orange flesh (also, erroneously, called garnet yams).

Spicy Sweet Potato Wedges

  1. 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut lengthwise into 1/2-inch wedges
  2. 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
  3. 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  4. 1 teaspoon sugar
  5. ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  6. ¼ teaspoon hot paprika
  7. ? teaspoon ground cumin

Heat oven to 475 F. In a large bowl, toss together sweet potatoes and olive oil to coat.

In a small bowl, combine salt and remaining ingredients. Add spice mix to sweet potatoes and toss again to coat evenly. Arrange sweet potato wedges in a single layer on a baking sheet and cook for 20-25 minutes, turning once after 10 minutes and twice thereafter, until tender all the way through and slightly crisped on the outside.
