We just kicked off our “Fresh From the Farmers’ Market” series with a post about bell peppers: http://nourishnetwork.com/2010/08/04/at-the-farmers-market-pick-a-pack-of-bell-peppers/. One of our Minnesota-based members noted that she has yet to see fresh tomatoes in her area. I’m curious, what’s turning up fresh in your neck of the woods?

A place for NN members to let us know what they’re seeing at their local farmers’ markets–and what they’re doing with seasonal produce.

Wow, Hope, this is amazing. Thank you for posting! I found several in my area I had no idea were here, and one in Inverness, where I’m heading this weekend, that I think I’ll just have to stop by.

eatwild.com is a great source for local, pastured meat. It links you up with farmers and ranchers in your area.

Check out this new NYT article on krill harvesting: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/23/science/earth/23krill.html
There's been much debate about this issue recently. "Casson Trenor, a Greenpeace campaigner, wrote that the had given 'an unofficial nod to the basic idea that vacuuming up the tiny life forms forming the foundations of the oceanic ecosystem is an acceptable practice.'"

I love the idea of always eating seasonally. We get a weekly farm box, and I work hard to use everything in that box! There's nothing like a long wait to make a peach taste amazing once the season has finally arrived. However, my 6 & 8 year olds have more limited [...]

I'm doing some informal research for a presentation I'm putting together and would love your input:
How important to you is eating seasonally?
* Super important – I don't eat tomatoes outside of summer
* Somewhat important – I buy from the farmers' market, but still eat strawberries year round
* I'm neutral on the subject: I eat what [...]4 months, 2 weeks ago · View

You're so sweet for checking in. We DID get ours built! My husband likes to feign being totally "unhandy," and then when he's into a project he totally rocks. So we've got incredible raised beds now, thank you Christopher. I'll have to post a photo once we get plants in (and once we get the [...]

I'm used to finding Fair Trade Certified goods at retailers like Whole Foods, but lately I've been pleasantly surprised to find them at bigger retailers (Target, Wal-Mart). Do fair-trade/organic/sustainable products make you feel friendlier toward big-box retailers?
