About Nourish Network
A Nourishing Welcome![]()
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be writing this page. For more than 13 years, I have written—both words and recipes—on food, health and sustainability for magazines like Cooking Light, Health and Prevention. And while I’m proud of my contributions and grateful for what I’ve learned, I am excited to be taking the conversation deeper, to be giving the stories greater scope.
The truth is I’ve been on a journey. Through both personal exploration and professional experience, I’ve been learning how to eat healthfully with joyful abandon; how to be filled up at a meal on more than just food; and how interconnected the health of our bodies and the earth really is when it comes to food. Along the way, I’ve discovered how to maintain a healthy body, a comfortable weight and an eco-clean conscience while getting more pleasure from food. But on a deeper level, I discovered how to feel fulfilled, content and connected with every meal, every bite.
It seems to me in the conversations I’ve had both offline and online with several of you that a good many others have been on similar journeys of their own. And that’s what—you are what—inspired me to step out and create a place where we can come together to share our thoughts, learnings, concerns and—most certainly—our food. That place is Nourish Network.
The content on Nourish Network
Those of you who know me know I always have something to say, so you’ll be seeing me up here a lot talking about sound nutrition, how to be mindful during your meals and how to eat with an eco-clean conscience. But I’ve also enlisted the help of some talented colleagues, whose voices you’ll get to know, and bringing in experts from time to time.
There will also be a video component to Nourish Network starting with Kitchen Tips—on anything from dicing an onion to deveining shrimp—that are designed to help you feel more comfortable in the kitchen, as if I were there beside you answering your ‘how-to’ questions in person. You can access the videos either by clicking on the ‘Watch’ button on the control panel to browse them by topic, or by clicking on links directly in the recipes themselves. In the coming months, we’ll have videos spanning other topics and taking you on the scene to explore the source of food.
The recipes on Nourish Network
It wouldn’t be a nourishing network without good food, now, would it? Since one of the things I’m trying to move away from with Nourish Network is the preconceptions that we’re all still fighting (fat, BAD; carbs, BAD), I’ve chosen not to include nutrition information with the recipes. Instead, I’m assuring you that all adhere to the sound nutrition principals covered on this site and no serving is over 500 calories (we’ve run them through a nutritional analysis) which means you can create a daily menu of balanced meals from this site—and even better, enjoy them to the hilt—without having to worry about your waistline. It is important to me that Nourish Network be more about helping you hone your own discernment in making smart choices—for your health, for the health of the planet—and enjoying them fully than about propagating more should-do’s or no-no’s around food.
The Nourish Network Community
Part of what makes Nourish Network so exciting is the opportunity to create a community around how we nourish ourselves, others and the earth we share through the food we eat. It’s like we’re all sitting around a giant dinner table (glass of wine in hand, no doubt) exploring what it means to eat sustainably; how we deal with maintaining a comfortable weight and healthy body while enjoying—rather than fighting with—our food; and probing into the elusive soulful aspects of a meal.
Feel free to jump into the conversation at any point, either by commenting on an article or digging deeper in a forum. I encourage you to become a member of the Nourish Network community by creating a profile, sharing your thoughts and making new friends.
Welcome to Nourish Network. I’m glad you’re here.
